A brief rally in the bottom of the seventh inning fell short and the Mustangs lost 4-2 to the Clarke County Eagles last Thursday. The loss ended the season and the Mustangs’ record finished at 11-8 overall, 6-5 in the district.

The varsity boys’ soccer team, with a season record of 16-4-3, qualified for the state semi-finals with their 3-0 victory over Windsor High School last Tuesday.

Lashway Takes First

The track team competed at the Region B Championship last Saturday, the May 29, at Monticello High School in Charlottesville. Three Mustangs will be heading to Radford University on Saturday for the State Meet.

It was a fast-paced first half for the Mustangs as they scored three goals within 25 minutes of the starting whistle and five more in the second half to shut out Buffalo Gap High School Thursday night 7-0 in the regional semi-finals.

Mustangs Fall to AA Schools in Last Three Games

Since the Mustangs’ opener weeks ago, they seemed to have hit a bump, tying AA Dominion 1-1 and losing to AA Heritage 7-0 and most recently losing to AA Broad Run, 8-0 Tuesday night.

With his Mustangs down 26-20 in the fourth quarter, Mason’s Travis Greene returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown to put his team up 27-26, but the Mustangs could not hold the William Monroe offense in the last seconds and fell 33-27 at William Monroe Monday night.

George Mason junior Mohamed Zohir returned the second half kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown that ended a 16-quarter scoreless stretch dating back to 1999 against Stonewall Jackson and led his Mustangs to a 9-0 victory Friday night on the Generals’ home field.

Montgomery Takes First;
Girls Finish 4th at Gettysburg

In the first meet of the season, senior stalwart Andrew Montgomery won the Gettysburg Cross Country Invitational with a time of 16:35 and fellow senior Orie Bumgarner posted the best time of his career with a time of 17:55 and finished 18th out of 166 varsity runners at Gettysburg High School last Saturday.
