The varsity soccer
team, with a district record of 9-1-0, will play Rappahannock away today
to determine its standing in both the district and regional tournaments,
as well as the location of the regional tournament.

With recent victories
over ManassasPark,
8-0, ClarkeCounty,
2-1, and MadisonCounty,
3-0, the Mustangs need only to win the match against Rappahannock
to ensure that the regional playoffs will be held at George Mason, as opposed
to several other locations that would total roughly 30 hours of travel
time if the Mustangs would lose.
In addition, if
the varsity Mustangs win against Rappahannock
on Tuesday, they will become the first George Mason team ever to win the
district championship unchallenged.If
they lose, they will most probably play major rivals ClarkeCounty
at a neutral location to determine who takes first prize in the district. |
Seniors
Peter Hamill, left, and Alex Fatovic are two
of
the mainstays on the varsity soccer team that plays
a
crucial game at Rappahannock today to
determine
home field advantage throughout the
playoffs.
Goalie Fatovic has had numerous shutouts
and
has stopped over 50 goals this season.

The Mustangs
have trained hard all season for what is called the biggest game of the
season this Tuesday, for it could set an unparalleled precedent in George
Mason History.After last Friday’s
Washington Post article on senior Peter Dittmar and forwards Pete Hamill
and Josiah Larson, who assistant coach Frank Spinello has nicknamed “13
Feet of Hell,” the Mustangs are getting extra pumped up as well as extra
coverage.
Also, in last Friday’s
match against MadisonCounty,
senior Dittmar earned his 18th assist of the season off of a
throw-in to Josiah Larson. Junior
Larson in turn boosted his goals scored this season to 13, as he scored
his first hat-trick of the season, scoring all three of the Mustangs goals
in a tremendous performance, leading the Mustangs with most goals scored
all season.Currently, the Mustangs
have scored 54 goals and have let in only three goals in the district tournament.
