In spite of Evan Hamme’s
20 points, the Mustangs fell to Manassas Park 60-48 in last Thursday’s
semifinal match on the Cougars’ home court. The newly-named First Team
All-District player led his team back from an early deficit.
Manassas jumped out to an early lead,
stifling the Mustangs. After a key timeout by Coach Bill Broderick, the
team regrouped, and began to chip away at the Cougar lead. George Mason
focused on getting the ball to Evan Hamme and Deuce Greenfield (five points)
in the post. Mason stayed close to Manassas Park and was within five at
the half, despite Manassas Park’s dominance.
A strong third quarter of play by
Hamme, who was doing anything possible on both ends of the floor, and Travis
Greene helped with six points as well. But soon, Manassas Park proved to
be too much for the Mustangs, with their offensive rebounds and their blocked
shots on the defensive end.
Robert Kuhn and Sam Ehsani each had
five points while the rebounding was led by Hamme’s 10 and Pete Hamill
chipped in as well. Guard Jack Lawlor and forward Nate McFarland turned
in strong performances in their last basketball game as Mustangs. |
