Mustangs Take on Cougars Tonight
In Crucial District Matchup

By: Becky Roa (October 31, 2003)

Having trounced the Clarke County Eagles 24-7 in Saturday’s annual homecoming game, the Mustangs, 6-2, 2-0 in the district, are preparing for tonight’s biggest match up against the Manassas Park Cougars away at 7:30.

The Cougars are defending district champions. "This is an absolute must win for us," said senior linebacker Phill Blush.

Last Saturday, the Mustangs took an early first quarter lead when junior Steve Williams ran into the end zone to score the first of his three touchdowns. Senior kicker Peter Dittmar added the extra point putting Mason on top, 7-0. The Eagles quickly responded by doing the same and tying the game before the end of the quarter.

Five minutes into the second quarter, Williams scored again and Dittmar again was successful for the Mustangs; George Mason led 14-7.

Deep into the third quarter Williams scored for the third time and Dittmar again added to the lead, making it 21-7. Minutes later, Dittmar added the final three points for George Mason when the Mustangs recovered and the Eagles fumbled from within the 30 yard-line.

Leading, the Mustangs held on for the remainder of the fourth quarter and won their annual homecoming game 24-7.

Senior Matt Williams, number 56, ran the opening
kickoff of the second half back 35 yards last
Saturday against Clarke County, setting up a
touchdown by his brother Steven. The Mustangs
won 24-7 and take on Manassas Park tonight at
7:30 in a key Bull Run District matchup.
