Student-Teacher B-Ball Game
Faculty Pulls Out 63-43 Win;
Seniors Raise over $1000

After three close quarters, the faculty stole the game away in the fourth quarter and pulled away to win 63-43 over the seniors Tuesday night in the first annual faculty versus seniors legacy basketball game.

Despite losing, the seniors helped raise over $1,000 to be banked for their All-Night Graduation Celebration bank account. Some 200 teachers, students and family members came out to support the fundraiser that "will benefit the junior class of 2005 as well, for the leftover money will be given to them as a nest for their All-Night Graduation Celebration," said game originator and parent Rosemary Lawlor.

The game featured the female faculty playing the female senior students in the first and third quarters and the male faculty versus the male senior students in the second and fourth quarters.

The first quarter appeared to be a jump start for the faculty as the girls’ JV coach Maggie Olson’s quick moves and slick passes helped varsity volleyball coach Stacey Rosholt get several open shots. But Maria Wood and Becky Roa kept the score in reach by hitting a few shots just inside of the perimeter before the end of the quarter. In the second quarter, the senior boys went in with enthusiasm and ready to clean up and did so with a couple of Evan Hamme jump shots, Nate McFarland defensive stops, and Ben Andrew’s pair of easy lay-ups after suave weaves through the faculty’s defense. At the half the score was tied 24-24.

During the half, senior Andrew Montgomery was awarded $100 for winning the All-Night Graduation Celebration T-shirt Contest and senior mom Angelyn Wood was the winner of the raffle for the reserved parking space in the visitor’s parking lot. This parking spot will take on a special premium once students return from their spring break and find that new construction fences will have eliminated many parking spaces.

In the third quarter, the faculty speedily put the game at a scarcity for the seniors due to defensive pressure that resulted in steals and were converted to points by gourmet cooking teacher Sally Twentyman, P.E. teacher Lauren Moran and varsity softball coach Carlyn Kuder. Down by 13 at one point, the seniors put the game within 11 when Haley Chrisco’s defensive stop resulted in Becky Roa’s steal and a pass to Elise Edwards for an easy two.

The fourth quarter started off great for the seniors as Hamme hit more shots, Deuce Greenfield blocked shots including one that shook athletic director Tom Horn and fired up the audience. But, the boys’ varsity basketball coach Bill Broderick’s ball handling skills proved to be too much for the seniors as he assisted points by varsity soccer coach Frank Spinnello, varsity baseball coach Adam Amerine, and girls’ varsity basketball coach Dan Wilkie. The faculty rode off with a 63-43 win over the seniors.

"This would have never happened without the dedication that the 17 seniors and 18 faculty members put into making sure this idea was carried out," said Lawlor.
