‘Confessions of an Heiress’ Doesn’t
Take Itself Too Seriously

By Emma Beyer (May 20, 2005)

“#23.  Last but not least make fun of yourself.  Never take yourself, or rules, too seriously.  (See all above rules.)”  Rule number 23 ends the list of socialite, model, actress, and heiress Paris Hilton’s hot pink, photo-filled book of “confessions.”  The 23 rules are a compilation of advice from Paris to a girl wanting to be an heiress, and to “tread that fine line – in stilettos.”

But, that’s not all that you can find in Confessions of an Heiress. Hilton also reveals her secrets on how to be unique and how to be in charge.  She states that, “if you follow your own plans and dreams and you don't let anyone talk you out of them, then you'll start to get the hang of being an heiress. It's all about feeling entitled.”

When reading about Hilton’s diet plans or media scandals, you might think that the book is superficial and annoying, but if you think about it, she gives some good advice and makes it fun.  When she is discussing her interest in writing the book, she says that the book parties would be really fun.  But, she continues to say that, more importantly, she wants to show people how to channel their “inner heiress” and “project an extreme sense of confidence.”

Hilton also exudes an even greater confidence when she critiques herself in this book.  She is not afraid to make a page full of her fashion mistakes, or a list of “Three Things Most People Think Heiresses Shouldn’t Do, But I Think They Should.”  She makes it obvious that she doesn’t take herself too seriously.  This makes the book fun.

Hilton delivers clever advice in a witty and fashionable form.  If you’re looking for a book that’s fun to read, and you like reading about celebrities, and you aren’t reading for the purpose of being uptight and boring like some people, definitely read this book.  Don’t forget to read Hilton’s Chihuahua’s Tinkerbell’s, Diary also.  It’s hot.
