‘Napoleon Dynamite’ Runs with Dry,

Playful Humor for the Whole Family

By Rachel Miller (March 22, 2005)

"Napoleon Dynamite," written and directed by Jared Hess truly is one of the strangest movies I have ever
seen.  Based in a small Idaho town, the story’s main character named Napoleon, played by Jon
Heder, lives with his eccentric grandmother and his older computer geek brother.

Napoleon’s grandmother gets injured early on in the movie from a freak  motorcycling accident, which leads to their neurotic uncle staying with them for a couple of weeks. Right from the beginning of the movie, one can tell
that Napoleon is a "little" off; walking with his hands by his sides, a lop-sided bushy hair-do, and his rather
large square glasses.  It would be safe to assume that Napoleon he is the local "nerd" in the town.

Napoleon struggles with the ladies, his 32-year-old  brother teaming up with his crazy uncle, and with his
friend Pedro who is running for class president. Napoleon can be taken for a fool in most ways, but
when it comes to his friends, he will take no crap.

"Napoleon Dynamite" runs with a dry yet playful humor and can be enjoyed by anyone in the family.  The goofiness
really shines through this picture and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good laugh.
