New Quizno’s Steakhouse Sub:
The Key is the in the Beef Dip

By Sam Ehsani (October 11, 2004)

The new Steakhouse Beef Dip sub from Quizno’s is beef on a baguette filled with a creamy white sauce, and accommodated with a meat broth that is meant for dipping the sandwich. The novel idea by Quizno’s is an attempt to add another sub to the menu. Advertised at a cheap $2.99 (in respect to other Quizno’s sandwiches), this sub seems to be a good buy. Yet as I watched my six-inch sub roll out of the toaster, I could not help noticing how small it actually was.

I took my first bite without the highly acclaimed dipping sauce, and noticed a medley of tastes. The special white sauce just seemed to be mayonnaise; I could not taste much of anything else, and it did not taste good. Not what I was looking forward to, considering that the usual Quizno’s subs have very tasty sauces. The beef on the other hand was nice and soft, and tasted decent, also not an explosion of flavor expected from Quizno’s sandwiches.

Then, when I dipped the sub into the broth, the sub improved drastically. It seems that they put all of the taste into that sauce. A bit on the salty side, but for me, that was no problem. From then on I dipped the sandwich to avoid the taste of the white sauce. Unfortunately, after a few bites, the sub was already finished, and I still had a good deal of broth left. If anyone were to buy this sandwich, definitely buy the 12-inch sub, to get the full effect of the broth. The 12-inch sub is $5.99, somewhat expensive for a sandwich, but if you are really fond of beef, mayonnaise and very good broth, it may be worth the cost.

Personally, I would say that the sandwich was decent, not as good as some of the other sandwiches Quizno’s creates, but definitely should be given a second glance if you are trying something new.
