Album Review:

U2’s ‘How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb’
Good for First Listeners, Fanatics Alike

By: Eliot John Hagen (January 9, 2005)

U2’s new album, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," their first real one since 2000, (a collection of their greatest hits from 1990-2000 was released in 2002), is a good one. In my book, good albums are few and far between. "Atomic Bomb," unlike countless other modern albums, has 11 enjoyable tracks. Nowadays, most artists take their mediocre single and pad it with a bunch of junk to make an album. U2, thankfully, didn’t do that, and, instead, recorded 11 good songs that can be enjoyed by U2 fanatics and first-listeners alike.

This is truly a good album. U2 didn’t try to emulate any new fashion, and, as a result, ‘Atomic Bomb’ gives off the good old Classic Rock vibe.

Where the tracks are concerned, there’s something for everyone. "Vertigo," the first track, has a great intro that sets up a head rockin’ riff, and "Miracle Drug," is a bit Smashing Pumpkinsesque, but maintains its own essence. The third track, "Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own," is truly a song for lighter holding and head swaying.

Pick up "Atomic Bomb" on Amazon.com for 10 bucks.
