Earlier this week I felt the effects of my "senioritis" more strongly than ever, and decided to put up the traditional ‘countdown to graduation’ calendar outside of Mr. Hoover’s classroom. I began to think about how many memories I had made over the past four years, and how little time I actually have left to cherish the little time that I have left to do what I haven’t yet accomplished. Right now the countdown is at 27 days, and I’m left wondering what those 27 days will hold. The Prom has already come to pass, but we still have two senior trips, baccalaureate, awards assemblies, the senior dinner, graduation, and the all-night grad celebration. We have just enough time to sit back and reflect on everything we’ve done together in the past. But will our attention span really let us? IB exams are over, and with the twenty or so minutes I had left over after each exam; I found myself reminiscing with old friends about the 80’s dance freshman year, or the concerts we went to during the summer, the trips to the beach we took, and the endless nights we spent watching movies or talking about all of the homework due the next week. So with all of the memories that lay behind us, and the last 27 days that lie in front of us, I hope that every senior can ignore the nagging feeling of restlessness just long enough to sit back and enjoy the time that is left. Talk to someone you haven’t had a conversation with since the sixth grade, and think back on what we’ve accomplished. There’s plenty of time to look to the future. We’ll all be leaving in the fall, dispersing to colleges or jobs scattered all over the US. If you don’t know where someone is going next year, just find their pin on Ms. Kurowski’s "Where Will You Be?" board, and even though your sanity might have already gone out the window, don’t let your memories fly away too. Tell us what you think. E-mail lassogmhs@hotmail.com |
