Loss Ends Mustangs Season
By Lasso Staff (November 17, 2001)

A dejected Mustang team left the court Tuesday following a surprising 40-26 loss to Stonewall Jackson in the first round of the regional playoffs at Orange County High School.

After playing Stonewall tight during the first half which ended with Mason behind 18-17, the Mustangs succumbed to what head coach Chris Madison called "a case of the jitters," and only scored nine more points in the second half.

Until the closing minutes the game was tighter than the final score would indicate. Mason began intentionally fouling, but Stonewall’s players were nearly perfect from the free throw line down the stretch.

Mason senior guard Beth Pyne, the Bull Run District Player of the Year, had 16 points in her final game.

The Mustangs finished with a 17-7 record and the Bull Run District regular season championship.
