32-29

The Mustangs lost by seven points to the Mountaineers in a previous meeting this season but came into the game ready and confident. In the first quarter the Mustangs came out fired up and scored 7 points before the Mountaineers could score their first points. The Mustangs let up and allowed the Mountaineers to catch up and the quarter ended 9 – 6. In the second quarter the teams went back and forth in a fight to gain the lead. The second quarter ended 15 – 14, with the Mustangs leading. The third quarter made it an even game and the teams headed into the fourth, 23 all. The Mustangs jumped out to a four-point lead, but the Mountaineers caught up quickly with the help of number 31, Ashlee Henshaw, who almost singlehandedly took over the game with her power drives to the basket. With 38 seconds to go the Mustangs were up 30 – 29 and had possession of the ball when Beth Pyne was fouled. She made both free throws to make it a 3-point game. With 13 seconds to go, Jessica Szymanski dove for a loose ball to try to finally end the game, but it was called a jump ball. Madison had a final attempt to make a three-pointer with five seconds to go, but the shot hit the rim, and the buzzer sounded. Impressive performances were turned in by Jessica Szymanski with strong defense and nine points, followed by Adrienne Thompson, Beth Pyne, and Megan Ireland with 6 points each. The Lady Mustangs now have a 10 – 3 record and travel to take on Rappahannock next Tuesday. Team Concentrates before Final
