Madison County Beats Mason 47-31 to Win
Bull Run District Tournament

Having lost the regular season championship to the Mustangs, the Madison County Mountaineers came out on fire Saturday night to avenge their loss and throttled Mason 47-31 in the Bull Run District Tournament Championship game. "They shot the lights out, hitting well over 50 percent and we seemed tentative," said Mason head coach Chris Madison.

Madison was nevertheless upbeat as his Mustangs still hold the number one seed going into Tuesday night’s round one of the Regional Tournament against Stonewall Jackson at 6 p.m. at Orange County High School. "I think we have a real good shot. We match up well with Stonewall which has a dominating center. But she has rarely played against someone as strong as our center Adrienne Thompson," said Madison.

If the Mustangs beat Stonewall, they will face the winner of the Goochland-Willaim Campbell game. Goochland is undefeated this year, but Mason beat them by 25 points in last year’s regional quarterfinals.

In Saturday’s game, the Mountaineers rode the wave of a full-house intensity as they jumped out to a 13-6 first quarter lead that they maintained the whole game. "Their bench was the key, with two players who don’t usually score getting red hot," said Madison.
