Mustangs Take on Rams Tonight in Search of District
Title Hopes as Mountaineers Open the Door

By Lasso Staff (October 25, 2001)

Tonight’s game against the Strasburg Rams away is "crucial" for the George Mason Mustangs’ post-season chances said Mason head coach Chris Madison.

"Madison County lost to Clark County 44-38 last Tuesday and this opens the door for us," said Madison. The Mustangs and Mountaineers are tied for first place in the Bull Run District with 7-2 records.

If the Mustangs win tonight and are victorious Tuesday at home against Brentsville and at Clarke County Thursday, then they might find themselves in a one-game playoff against Madison County before the district tournament. The winner of that game would get a bye for the tournament’s first round, would be the regular season champion, and would be guaranteed a trip to the regional tournament.

Last Monday night, the Mustangs, looking to sharpen their edge against powerhouse and AA Liberty, instead found themselves blown out 71-43. Senior Adrienne Thompson had 17 points in that loss.
