The Lady Mustangs had an easy win over Clarke County, 54-36, last night at home. The Mustangs demolished the Eagles’ defense, especially in the first quarter in which Mason outscored County 19-2. Senior Beth Pyne contributed 14 of those points.

The eagles were held to only 11 points in the first half.

Pyne finished with a game-high 23 points and was five of six from behind the 3-point line. Senior center Adrienne Thompson contributed 10 points and six rebounds. Amanda Harrington added seven points. Jessica Szymanski had six points and three steals.

The Mustangs used the Eagles’ game as a tune-up for Thursday night’s crucial matchup against Madison County, the only district team to beat Mason this year.

"Last night’s victory was huge for us. We wanted to have a big win, not only for our confidence, but also to make a statement to Madison County to let them know that we are ready for them on Thursday," said Mustang head coach Chris Madison.

"I believe we did that," added Madison, "County struggled with Clark County, beating them by only four points. Now they will see our dominant victory over Clarke and know that we are waiting for them. It will be a great game, but our girls are ready for them."

Madison county beat the Mustangs 33-26 in September and is undefeated. Thursday’s game will be for first place in the Bull Run District.
