Barcelona - Day 1
June 2019

We left Charlotte, NC at night
Morning in Barcelona

Our apartment was in the Eixample District

View from our apartment

With 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms we had plenty of space for the whole family

We spent the day walking around the city

Our destination at 9 pm was the "Arc de Triomf"
It was built by architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas as the main access gate for the 1888 Barcelona World Fair.

We met our guide Ross for a walking tour of the "Dark Past of Barcelona"

Every building, square and neighborhood had a dark story

People gather here every 23 June to watch the statue move. We are one week early

As the evening got darker, so did the stories.
Here guests in a particular room of the Inn mysteriously disappeared with great regularity.

The Inquisition supplied many of the stories. Ross demonstrated the various methods of punishment

There was a particular method to tie a noose for an effective hanging

We stopped for ice cream and walked back to our apartment past the Music Palace ("Palau de la Música Catalana")
