(Students in Ms. Knoke’s technology class were asked to respond
to a report by an education commission in Ireland that blamed the popularity
of text messaging on mobile phones for supposedly causing a significant
increase in errors in students’ abilities to write in grammatically
correct forms. When text messaging, people use a wide variety of new
abbreviations that bear little resemblance to standard forms of expression.
