George Mason’s FIRST Robotics team pose in the courtyard of the Georgia World
Congress Center, site of the 2007 FIRST National Competition in which Mason’s
robot, “Tazeroni” came in 22nd out of 86 teams from around the world
last Thursday through Saturday. The team won four out of seven preliminary matches.
In each match, Mason was randomly paired with two other teams to form an alliance
of three robots. Mason was consistently
the top scorer for the alliance, losing matches only when its robot suffered
major mechanical or electrical malfunctions. “This was an important experience for our school
in that we proved our design was capable of competing with the best,” said sponsor
Mr. John Ballou. Above, from left to right
