Heads
to State Tournament Saturday
(February 13, 2007)
The Scholastic Bowl team took home its third
consecutive regional title on Saturday at the Region B tournament
in Gretna, securing
a slot in the state championship next weekend. By emerging victorious from the tournament, the
Mason team continued this season’s undefeated winning streak, despite
only having the minimum requirement of a four players on the team. The other members of the Scholastic Bowl team
were representing GM on the playoff “It’s Academic” match at NBC
studios.

The Mustangs handily won their first
round match, defeating Luray 270-30. They
faced tougher competition from Rappahannock County in
the next round but still won 260-190. In
the semifinals, the Mason team beat Randolph-Henry 270-125 to advance
to the finals, where they again faced Rappahannock. Despite some discussion of the Rappahannock team
forfeiting, the Bull Run district rivals
faced off, with Mason coming out with a score of 285-95 as the
Region B champions. Both teams will travel to William and Mary
for the state tournament on February 24, where the GM team will
vie for the title that eluded them last year.
