Unsung Heroes
Senior Class Officers Helped
To Feed the Hungry

(May 15, 2007)

For their senior class service project this year, officers Elena Martinez, Andrew Walden, Irene Morrison-Moncure and Anna Duning (pictured left to right) got cookin’ by organizing a dinner-making campaign for the Falls Church Winter Shelter. From November until the end of March, seniors met every Tuesday to cook up and deliver feasts with menus that included spaghetti pie, fried chicken, enchilada casserole and always, freshly baked brownies. Nearly 30 seniors participated in the project with the help of the officers as well as class sponsors Ms. Mears and Ms. Whitlock, who often took it upon themselves to pick up and deliver food to the shelter when some groups failed to show. Nonetheless, even during a blustery snowstorm, the seniors fed the shelter’s 14 residents each week, whether it was by preparing a homemade meal in the school’s gourmet cooking room or picking up a delicious ready-to-go order from Super Chicken as pictured above.
