Enthusiasm for Language

Learning a foreign language can be a daunting task for many students, even with the best of teachers.  With new verb conjugations, grammar rules, and lengthy vocabulary lists to learn, personalized extra help once a week can be invaluable to acquiring language proficiency.  Luckily, many Mason upperclassmen have volunteered their time to tutor struggling students in both French and Spanish.  Madame Johnsen, head of the foreign language department, specifically commended seniors Tiffany Huyser and Elizabeth Fortenberry (both IBH French students) for their efforts to help others with their study of French.  “They have shown that they have the dedication to spend significant time week after week.  I’ve been impressed at what good teachers they are – they’ve been very patient, understanding, and have helped these kids succeed,” Madame Johnsen said.

Junior Christian Trasmonte also stood out for his contributions in tutoring students in Spanish.  Along with other advanced students, he has been a vital contributor to the Peer Tutoring program, held weekly in Señorita Albert’s classroom.  “He has been really diligent and incredibly dedicated, offering his time and staying after to help everyone.  He is calm, grounded, and positive,” said Señorita Albert of Trasmonte.
