In Surprise Twist,
Arbor Day Honors Wiant
(April 21, 2007)

For
the 15th year in a row English teacher Ms. Catherine Wiant planned
and executed a very successful Arbor Day celebration Friday that
honored Earth Day and celebrated Mr. Dave Eckert, a former city
resident who championed everything ecological. But Ms. Wiant,
who is retiring at the end of this school year after 22 years,
received a surprise during the ceremony when her fellow members
of the English Department showed up wheeling in a pink flowering
Dogwood tree that will be planted on campus in honor of Ms Wiant’s dedicated work over the years as both a fine teacher
and as a champion of all things green, including her two rain
gardens. From left to right (with the new tree) are English teachers
Ms. Karin Tooze, Mr. Brian Walsh, Ms. Wiant,
Ms. Bridget Dean-Pratt, Mr. Michael Hoover, and Ms. Maggie Webster.
