By Mike Denny On Tuesday at the end of the day there was a mysterious car accident at Mason. This accident did not involve teenagers driving too fast or end in death. On Tuesday students exiting the school found what seemed to be some kind of weird modern art sculpture. A small red Mazda 323 was balanced on top of a Toyota Rav IV. Some how this car had mysteriously rolled down the hill between the junior and senior parking lots. Yet, this incident was no mystery at all--someone thought it might be fun to roll another student’s car down the hill. Why? It is due to members of the senior class who are such firm believers in their holy privilege of having their own parking lot. In an age of understanding and equality, how can certain folks find that they must live out some kind of petty vendetta like a Wild West lynch mob? It is only a parking lot--large square of asphalt painted with those pretty lines with room enough for the average vehicle. Perhaps it’s spring fever or the fact that certain folks feel that they have the right to not only cause damage to someone’s property but to control the school like they have any authority due to their seniority. I believe Rodney King said it best when he said,
"Can’t we all just get along?" And this is from a man who was savagely
beaten by members of Los Angles’s finest. Now if someone who was beaten
to near death can see the light, then why should there be some squabble
on who parks where? The truth is it doesn’t really matter, and there are
far more important things to fight for.
