The
boys’ basketball team fell to the Loudoun County
Raiders 62-58 Wednesday in the Mustang Gym at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle
School.
The Mustangs played an uncoordinated game against the
Raiders, turning the ball over while mishandling the ball on many occasions.
Mason managed to miss several short range baskets, and lost rebounds
that gave easy points to Loudoun County.
The team also managed to miss on several foul shots early in the game
which hurt them later on.
The game began with points from seniors Jack
Settje (20 points), Ben Zorn (8 points), and junior Mike Schwengel (13
points).
After one quarter of play, the Mustangs had a 16-10 lead and looked
to pull away in the second quarter. The Raiders instead moved closer,
and
managed to tie the game at 26 by the half.
By the end of the third quarter, Mason
had mustered a 41-39 advantage. Needing only eight more minutes of solid
basketball,
Mason’s rebound and turnover woes proved costly and put Loudoun ahead
56-48 with 2:34 left in the game. Despite a spectacular
three point shot by Jack Settje which brought Mason to within three points,
it was the closest they could get.
Wednesday’s loss came a day after a
solid win away at Briar Woods. The 4-5 Mustangs look to even their record
tonight against
undefeated Park View at 7:30 in
the Mary Ellen Henderson gym.
