Mustangs’ Season Ends with
21-7 Playoff Loss to Bulldogs
By Charlotte Volpe (November 20, 2006)
Mason’s
season ended with a 21-7 loss to Goochland High
School in the Region B semifinals Friday
night away. While the game ended any hopes that the Mustangs may have
had to continue deeper into the playoffs, the score showed how much
Mason has improved as the season developed. Back on October 6, the
Mustangs lost decisively 45-0 to these same bulldogs.

Asked about
the significant improvement, defensive coach Adam Amerine said, “The
fact that we were healthier than the last time we played them helped
somewhat, but the real reason was heart. Those players simply laid
it on the line, they played every play
as hard as they could.”
The Bulldogs started with two touchdowns
from 52 and 10 yards out respectively, but Joel Chandler caught
a 23-yard pass from Mike Schwengel to make it 13-7. Goochland responded
with a game-sealing 17-yard touchdown pass and 2-point conversion.
The Mustangs finished 6-5 overall, and
had a 5-0 Bull Run District regular season record.
