For 8 Seniors,
Friday’s Game Means ‘Everything’
None Has Ever Beaten Manassas Park

This
Friday’s game against
Manassas Park is the final home game of the year, of course, but for
eight seniors it is the final chance of their career to beat the Cougars,
and for them, this game means “everything!” As senior Ben Zorn said, “My
entire high school career is going to culminate in this game.”

The
Mustangs’ last home game was Homecoming night and the crowd
was phenomenal, with record-breaking attendance accompanied
by a stunning performance that resulted in a upset of Madison
County. At that time, the Mountaineer game was supposed to be
the biggest game of the year. But
since the Mustangs triumphed over Madison County on Homecoming
and Manassas Park surprised Madison County last Friday, this
final home game Friday is now the biggest game of the year. It
will certainly decide who holds the number one spot in the Bull
Run district going into season’s end.
Both
Mason and Manassas Park currently stand at 4-4 overall, and
3-0 in the district. Not only does Friday night’s game decide who
holds that cherished number one spot, but it also has significant
meaning for the eight seniors on the team. None of the eight
seniors have ever beaten the Cougars. Manassas
Park has been a juggernaut the past five years, but this year
Mason looks to prove otherwise. The Mustangs believe they have the necessary
talent, leadership and experience to finally overcome Manassas
Park and have the opportunity to win the Bull Run District title. |
These
eight long-suffering seniors are chafing at the bit to play in Friday
night’s game that will help determine the winner of the Bull Run
District regular season championship. None of these seniors has
beaten Manassas Park during their varsity careers. Both teams are
3-0 in districts and will have one more district game each after
Friday’s game which is at home at 7:30. From left are Ed Hickey,

“The crowd we had against
Madison was great, and we really need that kind of spirit and energy
again against Manassas Park,” said senior Ryan Larcamp. “It is a real boost for us to have that at
games. We get real excited, especially
since it is the seniors’ last home game.”
