Mustangs Win Bull Run District
Title with 21-13 Defeat of Rams
   First District Championship Since 1998

The George Mason High School varsity football team, after starting the season 1-4, won the Bull Run District championship last Friday night with a 21-13 victory over Strasburg High School on the Rams’ home field.

The Rams started the scoring early with a four-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0, but the Mustangs responded with a 14-yard touchdown run by senior Eddie Huber to tie the game.

Later, the Mustangs jumped ahead 14-7 on a 24-yard pass from junior Mike Schwengel to fellow sophomore Joel Chandler, only to have the Rams respond with a two-yard touchdown run and a failed two-point conversion.

The Mustangs responded by sealing the win and the district championship with a 73-yard touchdown run by Mike Schwengel to make it 21-13, and the score stood for the rest of the game.

The Mustangs’ finished 6-4 overall, but their 5-0 Bull Run District record propelled them into the Region B semifinal game at Goochland High School this Friday, November 17.
