Mason Girls and Boys Take
2nd and 3rd
at Districts, Head to Regionals Tomorrow

Although they were no match for Clarke County, the defending
Division A state champions, the runners of the GM Cross Country team
turned in some notable performances at the Bull Run District Meet last
Wednesday, October 25, at Rappahannock County High School. Braving
a hilly course and a lot of icy wind, the Mustang girls and boys took
home 2nd and 3rd place team titles, respectively.
Once again, junior Susanna Sullivan (2nd, 19:40) led the varsity girls to a very respectable
2nd place team score of 51; Clarke County took
the District title with 23. Also
placing in the top 15 (and receiving All-District honors) were freshman
Courtney Ready (9th, 22:03), junior Karina Robarge (10th, 22:11),
and senior Elizabeth Fortenberry (12th, 22:30). Sophomore Taylor Moot and
senior Emma Goetz also turned in great races for Mason, both finishing
under 24 minutes.
Although sophomore Miles Butler was the only All-District
runner from the Mason boys, placing 11th with a time of 18:25,
the rest of the team certainly helped contribute to Mason’s strong 3rd place. Sophomore
Carlos Clark just missed making the All-District team, placing 16th with 19:03. Right
behind him was sophomore Lewis Henniger, who finished 18th with 19:04. Teddy Rueckert, Will Stewart, Daniel Benn,
and Andrew Breen rounded out the varsity lineup, all finishing in less
than 20 minutes. The boys’ overall score was 87, following Clarke County’s
perfect 15 and Rappahannock’s 73.
Besides the group of All-District Mason runners, Head
Coach Julie Bravin was also named Bull Run District Coach of the Year,
following eight years of coaching at Mason. The
varsity Cross Country team (top 7 boys and girls) will compete at the
Regionals in Charlottesville this
Wednesday, November 1, and will hopefully be sending a sizeable contingent
of runners to States on November 11.
