The minute I walked into Mie N Yu in Georgetown,
I could tell it was no ordinary place. Modeled after the Silk
Road, Mie N Yu features an array of tastes from Asia,
the Middle East, North Africa,
and Italy.
The décor properly reflects the menu, with six separately themed dining
areas covering 10,000 square feet. My family and I dined in the main
dining room, and sat inside a casual tent with cushion seating surrounding
a round table.
For an appetizer, we ordered a platter consisting
of shrimp, calamari, and spare ribs. The shrimp and calamari were delectable,
their outsides a pleasing golden brown. The spare ribs were delicious
as well, with just the right amount of flavor.
For the entrée, I ordered the Kobe
Beef with potatoes. Kobe Beef is one of the highest quality meats.
The animals, raised
by the Japanese, eat food soaked in beer, and are massaged daily. This
unique treatment gives the cut an exquisite texture and pleasant tenderness.
I ordered my beef medium rare, but when it arrived some of the outside
strips were overcooked and blackened on the outside. However,
the middle portion of the beef was fabulous, stunningly red and amazingly
tender. The potatoes were delicious as well, served in an interesting
butter sauce.
Overall, the service was fantastic. Our server was
very kind, attentive, and never afraid to converse with us at any time.
While the atmosphere and culinary experience is first rate, this Mie
N Yu is not for someone with a light wallet. Lunch can range from $20-40
while dinner entrees range anywhere from $25-60. As many people know,
parking in Georgetown at
any time is no breeze. It’s not uncommon to have a hard time finding
a space on the street, so be prepared to spend up to $10 for Georgetown
Valet.
