Rehearsals began in earnest after Homecoming
week this year. Adam Gann and Tracy Geren had
both had supporting roles in other Mason productions, but Pajama
Game marks their lead-role debut. Both must sing, dance,
and act within a company of eighth through twelfth graders.
Casting strayed a bit from the original
production to allow for extra roles and creativity. Freshmen
Miles Butler and Becca Ward were two
such beneficiaries of Ms. Spicer’s unorthodox methods, receiving “shadow” roles
that feature a duet with the leads.
Other featured actors include Nathan Ward, Chantal
Cough-Schultz, Joseph Kendra, Jackie Weinberg, and others. Veterans
like Ward know the rigorous and rewarding process that goes into
a Mason production. But for some, it’s their first real speaking
role. “Theater requires a lot of dedication,” says Becca Ward. “Rehearsals
are like practices, and shows are like our games.” |
