Mason To Host Jeb Stuart Tonight on New Turf Field

A worker driving a sweeping machine spreads some of the many tons of sand—10 trailer truckloads’ worth—into the small holes in the newly installed FieldTurf on the football/soccer/lacrosse field. After a number of early setbacks, including the unearthing of a small house that was literally buried under the old natural grass football field, the company is racing against time to have the new artificial turf field ready in time for tonight’s first home football game against Jeb Stuart High School. Athletic Director and head football coach Tom Horn predicted that if there are no last-minute glitches, the game should go on as scheduled. The new field, which is guaranteed to last at least 10 years, will provide nearly unlimited access for not only Mason’s teams, but also the City’s recreation teams. (Photo by Ed Peetz)    9-8-06
