Students Create a 47-Foot
Long Historic Wall of Lassoes
Seniors Kirsti Price and Jeremiah Upton and journalism teacher Mr.
Michael Hoover look on proudly at the historic display of
old Lasso newspapers
that the two studentsspent the past three
weeks creating on the walls in the B Wing. Kirsti and
Jeremiah carefully went through hundreds of old Lasso newspapers and created
a display that is divided into four sections, the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and
90’s. The display, mostly of front pages of these issues, is approximately six
feet high and measures 47 feet long. The display will stay up until the end of
the school year. In addition, the two students chronologically ordered four decades
of the newspaper in folders which will be donated to the high school library
to create an historic archive. The public is invited to visit this display; just
check in at the main office. Mr. Hoover, who has been sponsor of the newspaper
for the majority of the years 1970 to the present, oversaw the
project with pleasure. “I congratulate Kirsti and Jeremiah
for seeing through a project that I truly wanted to be completed before my retirement
at the end of this year,” said Hoover. Editions of the newspaper from the year
2001 have all been electronic since Lasso morphed into a daily, digital newspaper
now called Lasso Online. A CD of the last seven years will also be donated to
the library archives.6-6-07
