Robotics Revs Up
Team Begins Work on Robot
For ‘Rack ‘n’ Roll’ Competition
Members
of the GMHS Robotics Team have begun work on “Rack ‘n’ Roll,” the
new project for FIRST Robotics’ Chesapeake Regional competition,
which will be held March 15-17 at the Annapolis Naval Academy Field
House. The assignment for “Rack ‘n’ Roll,” which was
presented on January 6, involves creating a robot that is capable
of picking up circular pool tubes and placing them on an eight-sided
tower with three
levels.Two alliances, each composed of
three teams, will compete on a 27’ by 54’ carpeted field in what resembles a
very complicated game of “Tic-Tac-Toe.” The teams will be scored based upon the
number and length of the rows of tubes they create on the scoring structure. The team has already completed work on the
chassis and is currently building a replica of the scoring tower on which to
practice.Shown here, hard at work, are
(from left to right) sophomore Matt Finein and seniors Eliot Walker, Matt Peppe,
Hunter Burkey, Kelly Casteel, David Maher, Rachel Taylor, and Fritz
Langford.1-27-07
