“The best present I ever got was a ‘My-Size Barbie’ that I wanted for so long.”

- Maria Venets

“I remember going to my grandparents’ house and sneaking down to open presents with my brother before everyone was up.”

- Byron Mendenhall

“I enjoyed playing snow football in my backyard with Mike and Ted when we were younger.”

-Peter Campanelli

“I would write a list and put it on the windowsill for St. Nicholas with an apple and carrots for the horses.”

-Ben Zorn

“My mom hid all these toys from us and kept telling us we weren’t getting anything, that she was buying all these toys for our cousins. So when we got to my grandma’s house we were so surprised with all the gifts she got us.”

 -Judah Chandler

“My fondest memory is reading The Polar Express with the whole family every Christmas Eve.”

- Francisco Brady

When I was little, I lived in New Mexico. There is a festival on Christmas eve that dates back to the Spaniards and their occupation of the west. In the elementary school, we would fold paper lunch bags is farolitas, paper lanterns, set them on the street spaced a foot a part for many blocks. IN the dar night, the entire neighborhood would come out to see the spectacle. We don’t really have anything like that here, but it gives such a sense of community, nothing like in the eastern suburbs.

-Addison Blakmore

“My best Christmas was in Hawaii. I went with my mom, sister, and Roger; we didn’t get lots of presents but it was still my favorite.”

- Roxy Sweeney

“ In order to fit the tree in a corner, we had to remove the back branches. The tree filled a window hole in our dining room and we had stuck presents through this window. As I was reaching for a gift, I accidentally knocked over the tree and was left standing in this window, wearing an “I Didn’t Do It” t-shirt. It was a picture-perfect moment.”

-Hunter Burkey

“My cousin told me he saw Santa one time so I always wanted to see him. My uncle’s friend dressed up as him but for some reason I was scared, so I ran away crying.”

- Matt Carl

I love seeing Santa come on the fire truck every year in Falls Church.

-Alina Kaye

“By far the best memory is sledding down the big TJ hill before they put the stupid trailers there.”

-Charlotte Denekas

“Every year, I’d find where my parents had hidden all the presents and then pretend to be surprised Christmas morning.”

-Anna Duning

“One Christmas in Florida, after all the gifts had been opened, my cousins and I spied the floaties in the pool. In our finery we carefully each got on one, hoping not to get our nice clothes wet. Then when the last cousin got on, she fell off, causing the domino effect and a pool full of kids swimming in their Christmas gear.”

-Rebecca Gomez
