By Will Stewart ( The Mustangs got off to a strong start for the 2005 regular season on Friday night, dominating the Dominion High School Titans 31-0 at home. From start to finish, the GM team seemed to be in full control on both sides of the ball. The offense was led by senior running back Travis Greene, who totaled 118 yards and 1 touchdown. Junior fullback Eddie Huber also pounded in two touchdowns from one yard out. The scoring got started in the beginning of
the second
quarter, with Huber recording his first TD. The Mustang defense stifled
the
Titans’ next two drives with the help of sacks from sophomore defensive
end
Brady Hatfield and junior linebacker Ryan Larcamp. With the help of
good field
position, senior Gregg Curtin hit a 22-yard field goal with Senior Eric Blush broke up two passes on the Titans’ second-half-opening possession, leading to a punt. The Mustangs received the ball on their own 12-yard line. Senior fullback Sean McCrary then made good use of his first two carries of the night, rumbling for 12 and 48 yards. A few more runs by McCrary and Greene set up Huber’s second touchdown, and Curtin’s kick made it 17-0. On the first play of the Titans’ next drive, Dominion quarterback Chris Whipple took off running, but fumbled. McCrary, playing linebacker, scooped it up and ran it back all the way to the Titans’ 13-yard line. On the very next play, Greene went outside and reached the end zone. Dominion managed to get close enough to try for another field goal, but it was short, giving the Mustangs the ball at their own 19. Big gains by Greene and a 15-yard pass completion from Blush to senior John Schwengel set up Blush’s 11-yard TD run, the final score of the night.
