Last Friday night the varsity football team capped of its second win of the season against the local AAA Jeb Stuart Raiders. Even though Stuart is a bigger school,  Mason won by a score of 35-6.

The Mustangs got off to an early start as junior Eddie Huber scored the first two touchdowns of the game. Huber showed his propensity to make the big play as he broke and juked through tackles. Huber ended the game with 80 yards on 4 carries. Huber’s two touchdowns were from 20 and 60 yards out.

The ‘Stangs were also led by seniors Travis Greene and John Schwengel. Greene ran for a career high 194 yards on 19 carries adding two touchdowns. Schwengel also contributed greatly to the run attack as he scampered for 121 yards on six carries and one touchdown. All three of the running backs broke for long touchdown runs exciting the crowd. The offense ran for over 500 yards despite a few costly penalties.

Mason’s defense looked great only allowing one touchdown. The Raiders conducted two long drives putting them near the end zone, but Mason’s defense came up big and stopped them on one of the drives. The defense was led my juniors Eddie Huber, Ryan Larcamp, and Judah Chandler. The defensive line and linebackers played a big role in stopping the Raiders’ run game.

The Mustangs travel to Stonewall Mt. Jackson tonight for a 7:30 game, their first regional test.
