Six matches, six wins. That’s
all it took for the tennis team to advance to the regional finals, crushing
Wilson Memorial 6-0 Tuesday afternoon.

Led by their
top six players, the Mustangs overcame the oppressive heat to take
the win without losing a single set, and gave away only seven games
out of 79. Alex Goetting, Xavier Alarcon, James An,
Thomas Yancey, Daniel Lim, and Daniel Butler showed their talent
in strong wins.
The Mustangs proved why they are the
reigning Virginia single
A State Champions. The team hopes that its next victim will be Randolph Henry High
School this Saturday at home. Coach
Dan Wilkie seems confident in his team’s abilities to advance to
the State Championship. “Our team is better than last year and I
have no doubt that we will go all the way this year,” said Wilkie,
who has led the team to two consecutive State Championships since
he started coaching in the spring of 2004. “We believe in Coach
and his experience as a tennis Guru” said junior Daniel Lim, the
southpaw phenom. |

The Mustangs
are driven by a die-hard determination to win the State Championship
for the third time in a row and clinch a spot in the Virginia State record
books, tying the record for the most tennis state championships a Virginia school
has ever accomplished.
