Mustangs Bomb Madison 10-0 in
5-Inning Slaughter Rule Game

By Jared Allan; Paul Mene (May 13, 2006)

The Mustangs defeated Madison County 10-0 Tuesday behind John Schwengel’s seven strikeout, two-hit pitching. The game was called in the fifth inning due to the slaughter rule.  With the win the Mustangs continued their undefeated streak in the district. If the Mustangs win two of their next three games, they will clinch the outright first place spot in the district, giving the Mustangs a regional birth for the second year in a row.

The Mustangs started out slow scoring two runs in the first, but after a quick motivational speech by coach Amerine during the break between innings, the Mustangs focused and didn’t look back. The ‘Stangs scored five runs in the third and two in the fourth, with clutch hitting by Brandon Ting, Jimmy Piscopo and Derek Blodgett.

At the plate Eddie Huber went two for three along with John Schwengel who went one for three and drove in the 10th run to end the game in the fifth inning. Byron Mendenhall went one for three with two RBIs on a double. The Mustangs defiance was close to impenetrable, only allowing one ball to get into the outfield.

The team will compete against Clarke County this Friday, and Monday the team travels down south to play Madison County, with the last regular season game against Manassas Park. If our team can win two of the three next games it will clinch a spot in regionals.

When Lasso photographer Jared Allan arrived at the field on Tuesday for the George Mason vs. Madison County baseball game he found a deserted field with the sprinklers on early, due to the 10-0 lead in the 5th inning.
