This
tactic brought the varsity team to a quick 10-2 lead in the first
quarter. The Flames called a timeout, but couldn’t find an answer at
that point or for the rest of the night. Senior Paul Mene led the Mustangs with 18 points in the
first half, most of them coming from easy lay-ups as a result of the
numerous steals generated by the defense. The first half was finalized
by two slam-dunks, one by Mason senior Travis Greene, and one by the
Flames’ center. At the break, the score stood with the Mustangs at 40
and the Flames at 23.
