The score between Emmanuel Christian and the Mason was
close the entire game, but finally in the fourth quarter the Mustangs pulled
away for a 48-41 victory Saturday, Dec. 17.
Prior to the tip-off the three senior captains told the
team to come out strong and fired up, to avoid falling behind early which
had happened in the previous two games.
Paul Mene led the Mustangs’ charge with an all-around
outstanding game, 13 points, eight rebounds, and five steals. Valdis “Vladi” Kravalis
towered over the Emmanuel Christian team, scoring 10 points, getting seven
rebounds and three blocks. Ben Zorn contributed to the victory with nine
points and 12 rebounds. Mike Schwengel, “the Professor”, had a strong defensive
and offensive game, with eight assists, eight steals and four points. Jack
Settje added to the win with four points, 12 rebounds and five steals,
but suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs committed 25 turnovers against
Emmanuel Christian. Turnovers have become an ongoing problem for Mason.
Coach Broderick said
he was not worried about turnovers in future games if the boys will “stick
to the fundamentals and follow specific roles.”
Travis Greene sat
out the Emmanuel Christian game because of injury, but will unleash his
skills with the rest of the Mustangs tonight at 7:30 against
Word of Life. This is the last home game before the winter break.
