Clash of the Giants: 6-2 Mustangs
Take on Undefeated Cougars Tonight

By Gregg Curtin (November 4, 2005)

Tonight’s game will be monumental for both teams, no matter the outcome.

The Manassas Park Cougars have consistently dominated their opponents, with an 8-0 record this year. They still hold a 35 regular season game winning streak from last season. In addition, they’ve won 25 straight home games. Not to mention the Region B Division II State Championship that they won last year.

But we have a formidable team as well. The George Mason Mustangs have beaten every team in their district as of yet. They dominated the Clarke County Eagles, a team which narrowly lost to the Cougars two weeks ago. Mason hasn’t beaten Manassas Park for the last seven match-ups. Tonight’s game will likely decide whether the Mustangs will have a playoff spot or not. They want to win this game more than any other one to break the Cougars winning streak.

There are uncanny similarities between the teams as well. Both are 3-0 in the Bull-Run district. Both teams lost some key senior players last year, but have benefited from an influx of new talent this season. Both teams are looking for a spot in the Regional playoffs. The winner of tonight’s game will be the team that has prepared well, and plays with a desire to win.  Tonight’s game, it’s fair to say, will shape Mason football history. Kickoff is at 7:30pm at Manassas Park High School.
