Off to one of its best starts in recent years with a record
of 9-3, the girls’ varsity volleyball team lost a close match last Tuesday
at home to Clarke County.
The match went back and forth all evening—loss, win, loss, win, and finally
a 15 – 8 loss.

Mason forced a playoff game because of an extraordinary
comeback in the fourth game. There were strong performances by junior
Katie Mitchell who made key blocks all night and sophomore Kate
Root and junior Sabrina Whitney turned in many saves.
Junior Brittany Head and senior Christie Ankenny
also contributed with countless digs throughout the match, keeping
the Mustangs within striking distance.
The team has been led by senior
captains Ankenny and Emma O’Hara. Head said, “It was not our best
game, but we worked hard and this will help us prepare for our next
match against Manassas Park at
their place Thursday.”
