Hoang’s Offers a
Taste of True
Asian Cuisine in Falls Church

A trendy looking restaurant on a corner of Broad
Street near Burger King, Hoang’s Grill
and Sushi Bar at first gives the appearance of being another overpriced
restaurant for uncooked fish. But in fact Hoang’s is one of the
best restaurants in the area for authentic Pan-Asian cuisine.
With its surprisingly reasonable prices and sensible portions,
and an extremely friendly staff, this restaurant serves all sorts
of dishes – cooked and uncooked. Up until about three months ago,
I had lived on the small island of Hong
Kong, China.
I’ve also lived in Japan, Korea and
visited Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
My mom is Japanese and I have lived in Asia for
most of my life. Let’s just say that I know what the food is supposed
to taste like. Hoang’s delivers an exact replica of that taste.

Cooked by chef Hoang and
his team of Asian cooks, Hoang’s offers a variety of Asian dishes.
Although it advertises Vietnamese, Thai and Japanese cooking, the
restaurant actually serves many dishes
found in Malaysia and China.
For example, their luncheon entrée Grilled Pork tastes exactly
like satay served in Singapore.
Their coconut curry tastes very similar to Malaysian chicken curry,
with similar spices and ingredients. As in Asia,
fresh seafood is incorporated into many of the dishes. All of the main
dishes are reasonably priced, especially at lunch. The dinner time
prices range from $12 to $16.50 but at lunch time you can get the same
food and portions for $5.95 to $8.50.
Although the taste is definitely
authentic, one flaw at Hoang’s is the price of sushi. For two bite sized pieces they charge $5
for Sake Maki (salmon sushi) and even more for sashimi,
sliced pieces of raw fish without the rice. Though the quality is undoubtedly
good, many would argue that with their budget it would not satisfy
an empty stomach.
All
the dishes served at Hoang’s are the best Asian cuisine in the area.
With their fresh fish and ingredients, good service, and delicious
and generally inexpensive authentic Pan-Asian dishes, Hoang’s Grill
and Sushi Bar is a must.
