Compromise Seems To Have
Eased Parking Lot Tensions

By Christie Ankeney and Andrew Puzick (April 28, 2006)

The administration recently called a meeting with two juniors and two seniors to discuss parking issues. Seniors have been complaining about juniors parking in the front of their designated lot and not respecting the rule that seniors get priority to the lot. The four students and two administrators decided to compromise and reserve the far 13 spots for the first 13 juniors who arrive and the rest of the juniors have to park in the Haycock Road lot.

Seniors with late arrival and career center in the mornings had been arriving to school only to find that their parking spots had been filled by the juniors. “Even after paying $100 dollars to buy a senior parking lot spot, the seniors found that the juniors were still taking the seniors’ spots,” senior Jared Allan told Lasso Online.

This compromise decision was made two weeks before spring break. Complaints from the juniors had filled the halls as the administration cracked down and started ticketing and towing not only juniors’ cars that didn’t belong there, but any cars without permits.  Senior Kris McMahon told Lasso Online, “It’s about time that I can find a parking space closer to school.”

As a result of the compromise decision, seniors seem to be all around more satisfied when parking. “Seniors in previous years used to lynch juniors for parking in their lot,” senior Gregg Curtin joked.

The new rule has been in place for a little over three weeks now and things seem to be running much smoother. Seniors are getting the priority they were promised and juniors can still park in the upper lot.
