Imagine that you can't remember your first name,
you don't know how to sit, and, worse
yet, love doesn't exist. All because your village has a nurse--or
is it a purse?--oh yeah... it's a curse! Welcome to the village of Kulyenchikov,
the stupidest town in all of Mother Poland, I mean Russia.
Well, it's not a real town, it's
the setting of this year's spring drama production "Fools" by
Neil Simon.

Leon Tolchinsky, played
by sophmore Nathan Ward, has been hired
by Dr. and Mrs. Zubritsky (freshman
Johnny Vroom and senior Katie Gordon) to educate their young
daughter Sophia (sophomore K.K. Bracken) in hopes of breaking
the curse of stupidity that affects the whole village. The curse
can only be broken if Sophia marries the evil Count Gregor Yousekevitch (senior
Andy Parker), whose ancestors put the curse on the
village, or if Leon succeeds.
But, no matter how ridiculous it all sounds, the
play is actually trying to say something.
Director Pamela Ricker-Spicer says, "The play points out
the way people who are lacking in the resources of education
can be oppressed and controlled by the clever and greedy. Most
importantly, it shows that purity of
spirit and strong moral character should be the most valued attributes." |

Parents Ruth Burkey and
Janice Nette are working together once again on costumes and as usual John
Ballou is heading the stage crew. With only days left until the show,
his crew has been working furiously on the set. The biggest attraction
is a beautiful town backdrop painted by Ballou himself.
The show runs March 23, 24, and 25 at 7: 30 p.m. in
the Mason auditorium. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.
Johnny Vroom says, "It's a hilarious play that I'm sure the
audience will enjoy."
