JV Show Tonight, Friday
Are Mustangs Ready for
Malagasy Rap?
By Bjorn Westergard and Alex Holachek (November 3, 2005)
Malagasy
rappers are going to prove that English language-rap is obsolete. George
Mason's most venerable garage band is going to play without its lead
singer for the first time. And the Irish dancer is, no doubt, going to
try to outdo them all. It is the day of the Junior Variety Show and everyone
is fraught with anticipation about the collection of acts that promises
to be one of the
most entertaining events of the year.
K. K. Bracken and Peter Davis will host the
extravaganza tonight and Friday. The community is understandably brimming
with questions about the approaching show. Can a country western remake
of a Cher song live up to expectations?
Why does talented singer Christina Parson's original tune Back. Here.
Home. have so many extraneous punctuation marks? Will Malagasy (the language
of Madagascar) prove to be the greatest innovation in rap music since
the direct drive turntable?
This
show, sponsored by the junior class and directed by music teacher Mary
Jo Webster, starts at 7 p.m. both Thursday and Friday, and promises to
be the most epic in recent memory, featuring acts too numerous to list
here and an as-of-yet undetermined running time. All proceeds will go
to paying for the junior-senior prom in May.
