Mason Loses to Holton-Arms,
Bullis on ‘It’s
Academic’

Lipman (January 19, 2006)
Members of the George Mason Scholastic Bowl team competed
on the television quiz show “It’s Academic” last Saturday at NBC 4 Studios, but were defeated
by Maryland private
schools Holton-Arms and Bullis.

The Mason team, consisting of juniors Margaret Lipman and
David Maher and sophomore Peter Davis, stayed in a very competitive
second place to Holton-Arms until the last round, when they
could not keep up with the faster “buzz-ins” of their competitors
and lost a significant number of points, finally ending with
a score of 330 to Bullis’s 430 and
Holton-Arm’s astounding 555.
Despite the discouraging loss on the show, however,
the George Mason Scholastic Bowl team still has an undefeated
12 – 0 record in the Bull Run District. The
team will be competing at Districts at Clarke County on February
4th, and hopefully will be moving on to Regionals (February
11th at Goochland) and possibly even States (February 25th at
William and Mary.)
