A gleeful soccer team exalts in the sweetness of victory after a dramatic 2-1 win over their arch rivals Clarke County to clinch the Bull Run District Championship for the Mustangs in a thrilling overtime upset at Clarke last Friday. The Eagles had beaten the Mustangs 3-0 and 7-0 in two previous games this season and five times in a row last season. The Mustangs controlled the pace of the game from the beginning. Sophomore goalie Rebecca Jackson held the high-scoring Eagles (109 goals scored this year) in check. Senior forward Jessie Porzel scored the Mustangs’ first goal with a blistering 35-yard rocket into the upper corner of the net. After over 60 minutes of 1-1 soccer, sophomore playmaker Rachel Kazman netted a dramatic “Golden Goal” to seal the victory and the District Championship. The Mustangs host the regional semifinal game tonight at 7 p.m.   - 6/1/06
