O’Toole Scores
16 to Tally 1,003
Career Pts; Yet Eagles Win 67-59
Prolific Point Guard To
Be Honored Tonight
Senior guard Maggie O’Toole
scored 16 points last night against the Clarke County Eagles to bring
her career total to 1,003 points with six more games to go in the
regular season. Despite O’Toole’s heroics, the Mustangs lost the key
district game 67-59 on the Eagles’ home court. Clarke is now in first
place in the Bull Run District followed by Mason at 5-2. Early in the
fourth quarter, O’Toole drove the baseline and took a leaning short
jumper to break the one thousand mark at 1,001.
Varsity head coach Dan Wilkie then
called a timeout for the fans to have a brief celebration. The Mustangs
pulled within one point with less than three minutes to play, but
“their in-your-face aggressive defense which caused many turnovers and
their solid foul shooting won for them,” said Wilkie. After the game,
the Clarke County coach donated the game ball which will be formally
presented to O'Toole tonight before the make-up game against Highland
High School. She will also receive an engraved pendant with the number
1,000 engraved on it. Her teammates are presenting flowers. "Maggie has
matured so much since her ninth grade year and it's been quite a
privilege to coach her and see her grow up and I'm proud to have been a
part of that," said Wilkie. 1-27-06
