Your Guide to Helping Out during the Holidays   

 

The holidays (Christmas, Hanukah, and Kwanzaa) are traditionally a time of giving-but the season’s generosity doesn’t have to stop at gifts for friends and family. The following is a list of volunteer opportunities in the Falls Church area that you might be particularly inclined to donate your time to during this time of year, and hopefully into 2006.

 

 

For those who’d like to lend a hand to the elderly:

 

Sunrise Assisted Living (conveniently located on North Washington Street) welcomes the efforts of volunteers to brighten the day of the residents, who enjoy everything from simple seasonal cards to groups of carolers.

For those who’d like to help children in need:

 

The Ronald McDonald house needs volunteers to help with tasks such as preparation of meals for the families temporarily residing there.

For those who’d like to help the homeless:
Christ House is a homeless shelter located in DC.  Weekly volunteer work at the soup kitchen is a good experience for you and a big help to others.

The Arc of Northern Virginia is collecting baby items and maternity clothes for a program entitled Resource Mothers—an organization dedicated to helping teen mothers in Northern VA.  If you would like to donate, contact:
